How to Reduce Size of OST File in Outlook?

Step 1. In Outlook 2007: Open the Tools menu.

In Outlook 2010: Open the File tab on the Ribbon, click on Info, and choose Account Settings.

Step 2.Click on Account Settings, then double-click on Microsoft Exchange. 

Step 3.Click on More Settings.

Step 4.Click on the Advance tab, and then click on Offline Folder File Settings

Step 5.Click on Compact Now.

Why do we need to compact OST file?

Deleting an Outlook item does not reduce the size of OST file as deleted item goes to Outlook deleted folders and takes some space there. If we are trying to empty deleted item folder, the space occupied by that item remains unavailable for the uses.
